The Alfred Runnestrand Post 354 was formed in 1922 to provide services to veterans who served during World War I. The post was originally named in honor of PVT Alfred Runnestrand who served in the US Army, 356th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division during WWI. He was Killed in Action on September 15th, 1918 during combat action in France.
The post was renamed the Runnestrand-Pederson Post 354 on May 6th, 1946. This change was made as a result of the Ettrick community losing another service member during World War II. PFC Theodore Pederson, US Army, 540th Engineering Regiment, D Company, was wounded while serving in combat operations at Anzio Beach Head. He later died aboard a British Hospital ship that was sunk in the Mediterranean Sea on January 24th, 1944.
